Service Dogs

Service Dogs

Service dog training is a specialized kind of dog training that is designed to prepare a dog to assist people with disabilities. Service dogs are trained to perform various tasks such as guiding blind people, alerting their owners of an oncoming seizure or low blood sugar, providing mobility support, and retrieving items. They are highly trained to behave appropriately in a variety of public settings. The training includes obedience and behavior training, specialized task training, exposure to different environments, and socialization. The goal of service dog training is to help the dog become a reliable and well-behaved partner for their owner, enabling the owner to lead a more independent and fulfilling life.

Rebel Ranch was created partly to bridge the gap between the high costs associated with service dogs and individuals who benefit from their capabilities. Typically, a service dog can cost between $35,000 and $55,000 per dog. Rebel Ranch has reduced its costs per dog to $10,000 and offers scholarships to low-income recipients through donations collected. Our service dog training program is customized to each client’s needs. The entire training program can take between ten months to two years, depending on the scope of the training needed, the dog’s ability to learn, and the client’s dedication to the program. Rebel Ranch specializes in training service dogs to assist individuals with mobility issues, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and autism.

Our organization provides two options for service dog training.

  1. We will source and train a service dog for a total price of $10,000.
  2. Clients can bring a dog to us for training for the total price of $7,000.

Payment options are available through our payment platform, Omella.

Scholarships are available for low-income recipients. Applicants must provide two current paystubs and a letter of request outlining their needs and financial state. Applicants must pay for a percentage of the services they receive if a scholarship is granted.

The progression of the training program consists of the following:

  1. Interview with the client to determine needs and develop a plan.
  2. Assess the potential service dog for temperament and drive.
  3. If you are a puppy, complete the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy course.
  4. Complete the AKC Canine Good Citizen course.
  5. Complete the AKC Advanced Canine Good Citizen
  6. Complete the AKC Urban Canine Good Citizen
  7. Complete specialized task training.
